Terms of Service
Draft for legal review — last updated 2026-09-30.
These terms are an agreement between you and [owner's legal name], doing business as Featherstall, of [mailing address] ("Featherstall", "we" or "us"). They cover the Featherstall builder at app.featherstall.com and every store you run with it. If you use Featherstall for a business, you accept these terms for that business, and "you" includes it.
You accept these terms and the Acceptable Use Policy when you sign in. Each time you sign in, we record which version of these terms you accepted, and when. The Data Processing Addendum is part of these terms. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
1. What Featherstall does
Featherstall hosts online stores. Each store has products, pages, search, a cart and checkout, at an address on featherstall.shop or on a domain you own. You run your stores from the builder. Payments go through your own Stripe account. Optional AI tools draft text for you to review.
2. Your account
- You sign in with a link we email you. Each link works once, for 15 minutes. There is no password.
- Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. Keep your email account secure. If you think someone else has signed in, tell us at support@featherstall.com.
- You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, and able to enter a binding contract. You use Featherstall for your business, not as a consumer.
3. Fees
- Featherstall charges 2% of each order's total before tax: the item prices plus shipping, as charged at checkout. The fee is rounded to the nearest smallest unit of the currency, such as a cent.
- A store's fees never add up to more than a monthly cap in a calendar month (UTC): $29, €29, £25, CA$39, A$45 or NZ$49, or the amount the Payments page shows for your store's currency. Once a month's fees reach it, the rest of that month's orders carry no fee.
- Fee-free sales come before any fee. A new account that joins through a store's "Powered by Featherstall" link, or with a code we made for a market, creator or partner, gets them for its first store: $1,000, €1,000 or £800 of orders before tax, or the amount the Payments page shows for your store's currency. The store whose link it was gets the same once the new store has paid orders from three different buyers. Fee-free sales have no cash value and stay with their store. If the store changes currency, what's left converts in proportion to those amounts. We may take back fee-free sales gained by referring yourself, or by other abuse.
- If you turn on tax at checkout, Stripe Tax works out the tax on each order, and the fee doesn't include it. Where your prices include tax, we give back the part of the fee that fell on the tax once the order is paid. With tax at checkout off, Featherstall doesn't calculate tax, and if your prices include tax, the fee is 2% of those prices.
- Stripe Tax is Stripe's product, with its own fees under your agreement with Stripe. You choose where you're registered to collect tax, and your taxes remain your responsibility.
- There is no subscription, no monthly fee and no set-up fee.
- We collect the fee as a Stripe Connect application fee on each payment. Stripe deducts it from the payment on your Stripe account and passes it to us. Checkout adds the fee as things stand when the buyer starts to pay. If the order turns out to owe less once it's paid, because of the monthly cap, fee-free sales or tax in your prices, we give back the difference.
- Stripe charges its own processing fees on your Stripe account, under your agreement with Stripe. They're separate from ours.
- Our fee isn't returned when you refund an order. Stripe likewise keeps its own processing fee, under its terms with you.
- We can change the fee with 30 days' notice by email. The new fee applies to payments made after the notice period ends. If you don't accept it, you can stop using Featherstall before then.
4. Payments through Stripe
- To take payments, you connect a Stripe account through Stripe Connect. Featherstall asks Stripe to create a Standard account for you with your sign-in email, and you finish Stripe's sign-up on Stripe's site. Stripe decides whether to accept your account and what it needs from you.
- You agree to Stripe's Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Services Agreement.
- Every payment is a direct charge on your Stripe account. You are the seller of record and the merchant of record. The payment is between the shopper and you, under your agreement with Stripe.
- Featherstall never holds your money. Stripe pays out to you on its own schedule.
- Refunds, disputes, chargebacks, negative balances and Stripe Radar decisions sit with your Stripe account. They are your responsibility. Featherstall can't refund, reverse or hold a payment for you.
- On your Stripe account, Featherstall creates checkout sessions for your store, adds our fee to each payment, and reads completed checkouts and your account's details to record orders and fill in your policies. If you turn tax on, Featherstall also reads your Stripe Tax settings and registrations, and asks Stripe Tax to work out the tax at checkout.
- You can disconnect Featherstall from your Stripe account at any time. Your store then stops taking payments until you connect again.
- If Stripe restricts or closes your account, your store can't take payments. That is between you and Stripe.
5. Your store
Your store's policies
- Each store has policies that shoppers see before they pay: a contact email, an optional seller name and country, a returns answer, and optional dispatch and delivery times. The returns answer is either a return window of 1 to 365 days, with who pays for return shipping, or "all sales are final".
- Your contact email starts as the address you sign in with. If your contact email, seller name or country is empty, we fill it in from the support email, business name and country in your Stripe account.
- Once you've saved them, we show your policies on your store's Shipping & returns page (/policies on your store). Every page's footer then links to them and shows your contact email, and the cart links to them just above the checkout button. Order confirmations name you as the seller and link to them, and search engines and AI assistants can read them.
- Your store can't take payments, and isn't shown to search engines, until it has a contact email and a returns answer.
- You must keep your policies accurate and complete, and honour what you publish. Shoppers rely on them when they buy, and they may be used to settle disputes.
Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for your products, listings, prices, taxes, shipping, returns, customer service, and the policies you publish.
- Follow the law wherever you sell and ship, including consumer protection, product safety, tax, export control, sanctions and privacy law.
- Checkout collects a shipping address only in the countries of your shipping zones, and charges the rate of the zone the shopper chooses in their cart. Where a zone reaches beyond your own country, Checkout also asks for the shopper's phone number, for the carrier.
- If you track stock, we lower it when an order is paid. If an order takes more than you had, we flag it as oversold. Sending the goods or refunding the shopper is up to you.
- When an order is paid, we email you a notice, and send the shopper a confirmation on your behalf. The confirmation comes from your store's name at orders@featherstall.com, and replies go to your contact email. When you mark an order shipped, we email the shopper how to follow it the same way, unless you untick that.
- Your shoppers' personal data is yours to control. Use it only for their orders and as the law allows. The Data Processing Addendum covers how we process it for you.
Your content
- You own the content you put in your stores: text, photos, pages and CSS.
- You give Featherstall a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, resize, reformat, display and send that content, as needed to run your stores and Featherstall. This includes sending product names and photos to Stripe for checkout, and letting search engines and AI assistants read your store's public pages. The licence ends when you delete the content or your store is closed.
- You confirm that you have the rights to everything you publish, and that it follows the Acceptable Use Policy.
- We don't review content before it's published. We may remove content that breaks these terms.
- If someone tells us your store infringes their copyright, we follow the process in the Acceptable Use Policy, and we close the accounts of repeat infringers.
6. AI drafting
- The builder can ask Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, to draft for you. It can draft a listing (title, description and alt text) from a photo, alt text for a photo, a tighter, warmer or translated description or one written from your notes, a new store's setup from a description, a page from facts you give, and custom CSS from a request.
- Drafts are suggestions for you to review. They arrive in the form, unsaved. Nothing is published unless you save it.
- AI output can be wrong. Check every draft, including its facts, measurements and claims, before you save it. You are responsible for what you publish, whoever drafted it.
- To make a draft, we send Anthropic's API the photo or text the draft needs, with details such as your store's name. Anthropic processes it to return the draft, under its commercial terms.
- Don't put other people's personal data into what you send for drafting.
- There is a daily limit on drafts, shown in the builder. We may change the limit, or pause or turn off drafting.
7. Acceptable use
You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy. It includes Stripe's list of restricted and prohibited businesses, plus our own rules.
8. Suspension and closing
- We may suspend or close a store that breaks the Acceptable Use Policy or the law, or that puts shoppers, Stripe or the platform at risk.
- Where there is harm, we act immediately and tell you afterwards. Otherwise we tell you first, by email, and give you a reasonable chance to fix the problem.
- A suspended store is offline. Shoppers can't see it or buy from it. You can still sign in to the builder and see your orders.
- You can stop using Featherstall at any time. To stop taking payments at once, disconnect Featherstall from your Stripe account. To close a store, use Close store in its settings, or email support@featherstall.com from the address you sign in with.
- Closing a store takes it offline at once, and you can reopen it for 30 days. After that we delete its content, and its order records lose the shoppers' details, as the Privacy Policy describes: we keep only each order's amounts, dates and our fee, for our accounts. Download your orders from the builder first if you want a copy. Your payments and their details stay in your Stripe account.
- Sections 10, 11, 12 and 14 still apply after a store is closed or you stop using Featherstall.
9. The service
- We work to keep Featherstall fast and available, but we don't promise that it will always be available or free of errors.
- We may change, add or remove features.
- The builder limits some things, such as the number of stores per account, the size of photos and the number of AI drafts per day. We may change these limits.
10. Disclaimers
- Featherstall is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
- We are not responsible for Stripe, for carriers, or for services we don't control. We are not responsible for the products you sell. Each sale is between you and your shopper.
11. Limitation of liability
- To the extent the law allows, Featherstall's total liability for all claims about Featherstall or these terms is capped at the fees you paid Featherstall in the 12 months before the claim.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
12. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Featherstall, and its officers and employees, against claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from your products, your content, your store's policies, your dealings with shoppers, or your breach of these terms or the law.
13. Changes to these terms
- We may update these terms. For material changes, we'll email you at least 30 days before they take effect. Other changes take effect when we publish them. The date at the top shows the current version.
- If you keep using Featherstall after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms, and your next sign-in records that you accepted them. If you don't accept them, stop using Featherstall before then.
14. General
- These terms are governed by the law of [jurisdiction]. The courts of [jurisdiction] have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
- We send notices to the email address you sign in with. Send notices to us at support@featherstall.com, and legal notices to [mailing address].
- These terms, the Acceptable Use Policy and the Data Processing Addendum are the whole agreement between you and Featherstall about Featherstall.
- You may not transfer this agreement without our written consent. We may transfer it to a company that takes over Featherstall.
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right, we haven't given it up.
- Neither of us is liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control.
